I’m starting to understand why so few blogs are successful.

With thanks to John Gruber over at Daring Fireball for uncovering this gem, I am constantly reminded that things only get read if they are: a) interesting, b) timely, and c) consistently reaching an audience.

This list of what makes a good blog by Merlin Mann clearly shows that I have a long way to go before this thing is relevant/readable.  Or even worth looking at.

One of my favorite blogs right now of all time is Jack Shedd’s Big Contrarian.   Shedd is a designer and developer out of Chicago, and sometimes gets a *bit* too technical for a reformed Luddite like myself.  But anyone who can incorporate the mystical allure of Iran, engineer vs. designer game theory, and this amazing film by Phillip Bloom in the same blog and make it seem somehow cohesive…well, that’s not only a daily read, but something to aspire to (at least for me).

Sidebar:  Shedd’s second piece referenced above (titled simply: Divide) is a must read for anyone who works in a team/collaborative environment.  Great stuff.

Conclusion:  I will try harder.
